As soon as General Assembly is over, I’m making plans to see a movie-- and it's one I think you'll want to check out too!
I just spoke with David Almgren with Affirm Films about their upcoming release, When the Game Stands Tall.
“It’s based upon the extraordinary true story of De La Salle High School in Concord, California,” explained David. “Coach Lad led the football team to 151 straight wins—the longest winning streak in sports history, amateur or pro!”
“Coach Lad used football as a vehicle to teach young men how to move down the road toward their larger life goals, and to live out their faith. It’s easy to have good character when you’re winning, but what happens when you lose? That’s what the movie’s about.”
The movie—which stars Jim Caviezel, Michael Chiklis, Alexander Ludwig, and Laura Dern—opens in theaters across the country on August 22.
“I hope pastors will see the movie as more than just a film, but as an opportunity to move the needle and impact culture in their community,” said Algrem.
Pastors and church leaders interested in learning more can pick up posters and other materials in the exhibitors hall. (What an awesome resource to bring back to your youth and family ministers, if they weren’t able to make it to General Assembly!)
David let me know that the movie trailer will be shown this week before worship services, and I can’t wait to see it. Make sure you’re on the look out for it too!
